A shot list, an OGT bar and my first six months.

You never really know if you are ready for something until you are in the midst of it. That certainly rings true for working at an agency. You have an idea and a plan on how a project should go, but as I found out, it changes daily.

I came from a digital role at Specialized Bikes and, although the work is similar, the reality is completely different. I've found that project and time management are perhaps the most important skills you can bring to a role like this. Adapting to an ever-changing project has been a great experience—the days are fun, varied, and never monotonous. Quick thinking and effective communication are key.

One project I took on was producing a Spring/Summer shoot for our client, OGT. I stepped in at the start and oversaw the production to ensure we maximized the project's value. After working with OGT to align on budget, deliverables, and timelines, I sourced the models, built a shot list, and finalized a plan covering five activities. We spent two full days shooting in iconic locations in North Wales.

We had a lot to get through: three locations on the first day and two on the second, with a shot list in one hand and an OGT bar in the other. I kept us on track throughout the trip to ensure all deliverables—30 selects, 5 postcards, hero shots, and one reel for each of the five activities—were met. This trip was a perfect example of what a dedicated team can achieve in a short time while remaining cost-effective.

Now six months in, I feel settled and understand exactly what is needed to consistently produce high-quality work for our clients. Before starting, I spent 18 months climbing across Europe—experiencing incredible places most people never get to see—and knowing that chapter was ending left me quietly melancholic. However, I’ve found that the flexibility of this role is great and makes you appreciate the ability to take work with you.

I’m heading out to Sea Otter Europe shortly and hoping to meet as many people in the space as I can.

Catch you there!
